11th October 2024, Delhi NCR : Gurwant Singh, an Indian-origin athlete, has made history once again by claiming his second world champion title at the SJJIF (Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation) World Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024. Held in Nagoya, Japan from September 26 to 29, Singh dominated both the Open and Weight Category classes, proving his mastery of the sport on the global stage.
Though he resides in California, USA with his family, Gurwant Singh’s heart remains close to India, a country he consistently acknowledges during media interviews. Despite his growing international success, Singh remains relatively unknown in India. However, he tirelessly gives back to his roots, returning to the country every year to organize Jiu-Jitsu events and free seminars for Indian athletes. His passion for the sport goes beyond personal accolades; he is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of Indian champions by helping them understand the nuances of Jiu-Jitsu and providing the necessary tools for their success.
Adding to his list of groundbreaking achievements, Gurwant Singh has also become the first Indian to receive an IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) black belt in front of a crowd of 10,000 spectators, just moments after securing his world title.
