Do you know why self-care should include skin care also? And why Saturday is the best day to take care of your skin?
Saturday is the most awaited day of the week; a Saturday helps you relax after a rough week. A Saturday is for parties and dinners. It’s for the wild non-working side of you to come out. Sundays are for sleeping, of course, but Saturdays can help you get that calm, peaceful and relaxed sleep as well as radiant skin. Your skin is the most exposed part of your body. Especially the skin on the face stores a lot of pollution and toxins. It becomes essential to flush those toxins out of the skin by clearing out your pores.
Just like your house needs deep cleaning from time to time, so does your skin. Skincare is not limited to only women or adolescent girls. It’s for all. Irrespective of age and gender. A daily routine works wonders for anything, really, but an occasional, once-a-week routine doesn’t hurt either. Your skin will still glow with radiance even if the deep cleaning is done once a week. No matter what your way is, it’s essential to know your skin type.
If you have acne-prone skin, it’s best to know the materials that may or may not irritate. There are basic routines that can be achieved by making masks and scrubs of your own at home as well. There’s no restriction to relaxing. You can also use products readily available to you. Fancy products are not the only solution to achieve good skin. The secret is to really love and care about your skin. You can take better care of your skin by enforcing some simple tasks regularly. These tasks are common for all skin types. Protecting your skin is essential to avoid the dirt settling deeper.
Tie your hair before bed. Your hair is no more exposed to the outside debris than your skin. It also stores the debris. Hence, when you go to bed with untied hair, the debris comes in contact with your skin, causing it to transfer and store the dirt.
Change your pillow cover once a week. Dirty clothes need changing so does your pillow cover. It is the one piece of cloth that is in constant contact with your facial skin. So it is best to keep it clean and fresh.
Now, the first step for any skincare routine is to wash your face and neck thoroughly. Your regular face wash is completely acceptable for this. Pat dry gently with a towel. Make sure that you don’t rub the towel on your face. The aim is to keep your face damp and not completely dry.
The second step is to scrub. Here, you can use any scrub that you have, or you can make one yourself. DIY scrubs can be a little harsh on your skin if you use sugar as the main ingredient. However, you can grind some rice grain and use that as a scrub. Mix the ground rice with honey or yogurt and gently rub it on your skin. Move your fingers in a circular motion for about 3-4 minutes. Make sure that you cover all the small corners of your face. Do not forget to scrub your nose and neck with the same gently. It exfoliates your skin and opens up pores for deep cleansing.

One of the best ways to remove the scrub from your face is to massage it with ice first. Take a small cube of ice and rub it all over your face and neck. Then wash it off with water. Best to pat dry with a soft cloth again.
Next is the mask. You can put on any kind of face mask you like. A sheet mask is also an option; just refrigerate the sheet mask for 5 minutes before use. It helps in cooling the heat stored in your skin. Your options are not limited to sheet masks though. You can use mud masks, or DIY masks here. There is a range of ingredients to choose from while making a face pack of your own. The most basic one that helps all skin types is the fuller earth face mask.
Take some fuller earth in a bowl and mix 2 tbsps of water or milk. You can also use rose water and yogurt here. Mix it well till you get a paste. Apply this paste on your face and neck with your hand or a facial brush. Wait for this mask to dry completely. While you are waiting for the mask to dry, you can read a book or get some snacks. A glass of your favorite drink can also help you pass your time while you’re waiting for the mask to dry and relax your body.
When the mask has dried completely. You can wash it off with lukewarm water. Massage gently while washing your face, it can help remove the face pack more efficiently.
The last step is to tone and moisturize. This step is important to close the pores that may have opened during the exfoliation. If you do not have a toner, it is perfectly acceptable. Rosewater is a great substitute for a toner. Dip a cotton ball in some rose water and dab it all over your face and neck. Lastly, apply some moisturizer or a face serum on your skin.
Apart from this regime we should use sunscreen daily. Heat causes damage to the skin, along with causing the skin to tan or get sunburnt. It’s best to apply sunscreen every day, even if you’re not going out. Sunscreen adds an extra layer of protection to the skin, so the stored pollution comes off easily when you wash your face.
Wash your face 2-3 times a day. It will help you and your skin to remain fresh and refrain the dirt from settling longer into your skin.
Stay hydrated. Drinking 2-3 liters of water every day is a habit that should be adopted. It will not help your body to remain healthy but also help your skin to glow.
Enjoy the radiant glow on your skin. Your efforts are clearly visible. So sit back and rest or get dressed for a party. After all, it’s your Saturday.
